STATE CUP Quarter Finals

OMG!!! There were several surprises today in the State Cup Quarter Final matches. First of all we won against Bay Oaks Gold. Our boys missed prob about 10 direct shots that should have been goals but the score was a comfortable 4-1. Odyssey played Vs Santa Cruz County Breakers. I honestly thought that Santa Cruz would dominate after seeing Odyssey's performance vs Sunnyvale Alliance last week. So Breakers were knocked out with a score of 3-0. Mustang dominated MP Strikers and finished with a score of 3-0. Placer also passed comfortably after beating livermore elite with a score of 3-0.

So Tomorrow Sporting faces Mustang in a semifinal rematch were last year Sporting lost to Mustang in penalties. Odyssey will face Placer. That game is a tough one to call because I have never seen Placer play. I think it can be anyones game though because Odyssey has had questionable performances in the State Cup. I think it will end up being a Sporting Vs Odyssey final though. The match will be like last year in the regional supergroup championship.

In other Quarter Final news. Hold Your breath for this one!!!! Juventus Monarcas and Santa Clara Sporting U16 (the two favorites to win State Cup) get knocked out of the tournament. Juventus Monarcas had a very strong and intense game with MVLA Raptors. Both teams felt the pressure all throughout. Monarcas missed 3 shots that were supposed to be sure goals in front of the net. With 15 minutes to go Raptors kicked a ball that looked like it rolled into the Monarcas net really slowly. The score was 1-0. Five minutes later raptors score again and then score the third and final goal two minutes after that. The favorite Juventus Monarcas team is cast out yet again from the State Cup run. Sporting U16 team also played against Diablo FC and lost in sudden death golden goal over time. Sporting U16 is the current State Champion but will not get to fight for its title anymore. Burlingame Juventus U16 also surprised with a victory over Placer. They scored 2 quick goals in the first ten minutes. Placer was only able to answer 1 in the second round for a final score of 2-1.

State Cup Sweet 16 Round

Sporting U15 boys are back from Dallas and were so excited to play in Home Turf. They faced the OLG Atlas team this past saturday at the Morgan Hill soccer complex. The match started out with a very very questionable red card given by the center ref to Cameron #19. I think even the other team was shocked and wondered why the card had been issued. The Sporting boys in their usual fashion stepped up their game and started with 1,2,3, and 4 consecutive goals in the first half. In the second half Atlas was issued a red card so now both teams were playing with 10 players each. Sporting continued to score the 5,6, and 7th goal for a final score of 7-0.

In a surprising upset, Mavericks Fusion was knocked out of the State Cup by Bay Oaks Gold in double golden goal over time. Odyssey had a surprisingly tight game with Sunnyvale Earthquakes. The Game went into double golden goal over time as well and Odyssey won with just 1 minute to go before penalties. Current State Champs Alliance Tecos were also knocked out of the tournament by a score of 4-1 Vs Mustang. Placer and Breakers white respectively one their games on the other side of the bracket. I personally think that Santa Cruz will win their side of the bracket and face Sporting in the final match. Its Far from over yet though!

The first goal was scored by Julio. In the second half Guillermo (guest player from Jueventus Monarcas) scored again to put the score @ 2-0. State Cup Preliminaries!!

WOW! What a great week for the Sporting 93 boys. They started out the weekend on saturday with the State Cup Preliminary round by winning 1-0 in a very tough match Vs. San Juan Lightning. Then on sunday they played DeAnza Force Black with a score of 4-0, and Solano Rapids with a score of 4-0. They finished the preliminary round with a total of 9 goals in favor and 0 against. The boys will be facing the OLG Atlas team from Sacramento this saturday whom also swept through their bracket with 3 wins. If they win that game, they will pass on to most likely play Vs. Mavericks Alliance Fusion in the quarter final game, then potentially Mustang Reds in the semifinal. I personally predict a final between Santa Clara Sporting and Odyssey. In a surprise, Sporting rival DeAnza Force Blue is knocked out in the preliminary round by Santa Cruz County Breakers White.

Friendly Games this past week

Well, we had some great games this past weekend. First we played Mustang U15 at their home field in Danville. The day was beautiful and we were in for a great game. The game started out with a very strong Mustang team coming in with very well coordinated attacks. Mustang started by scoring a great goal by Jessie, Mustangs best player (my personal opinion). Then the Sporting boys picked up their pace and tied the game 1-1. Well to make it short the game kept going on with Sporting scoring and Mustang answering with a goal of their own. As the second half came, with Jessie injured and the Sporting team playing their A game, the day finished with a final score of 7-3. This was a sweet victory for the team for the upcoming State Cup. As you might remember, Mustang eliminated us from the State Cup last year in the semis by penalties. We saw Mustang again in their tournament in August in which we eliminated them and then again just this past saturday. Its always great to play tough teams like Mustang. The game was clean and just some good O'l Soccer. We also played SF Bay Area Scores this past Sunday and won by a score of 7-1.

State Cup

Sporting 93 will be playing SF Bay Area Scores this coming sunday in Santa Clara in preparation for the State Cup tournament the following weekend. The team is feeling pretty confident about doing well in the first round of the State Cup. We understand though that despite the fact that the team is feeling strong about their game, it cannot under estimate any of its rivals.

First we will play San Juan lightning Blue. At this time we are not really sure how strong the San Juan team will be. They were semifinalist at the Presidents Day cup tournament in Arizona, which is a pretty competitive tournament. They beat DeAnza Force blue at that tournament 1-0. DeAnza is currently one of our 2 biggest rivals in N. California behind Odyssey. The only thing though is that after beating DeAnza in the semis, they lost in the championship match with a pretty bad score of 5-0. The team also just won the Diablo FC cup. There were no competitive teams besides Mavericks Fusion at that tournament though. It seems that this team is looking to be the upset in this state cup by eliminating us. They will not succeed though.

DeAnza Force Black is also in our bracket. We are not underestimating this team but not really worried either.
Solano Rapids is an unknown team. We are always careful with unknown teams because last year in the first round of State Cup, we underestimated the Stockton Cougars team and they almost eliminated in the first round.

Well, as you know, it is always everyone's dream to win the State Cup and become State Champion. Unfortunately only one team can obtain the title. The way has been somewhat cleared for the top teams by the disintegration of the tough Tecos team (current State Champion) who will now only be playing with their B Squad. Tecos used to be our biggest rival so it sucks that they longer will be around.

Dallas

Sporting will have a tough bracket at the Dallas Cup tournament next week. In the bracket are: West Midlands Futbol Academy from England, Jaguares from Mexico, and the Solar team from Dallas. Coach John Azevedo and the rest of the Sporting 93 team are very optimistic about their prospects to place in a high position at this years tournaments. If Sporting passes the first round in which only the top team in each group passes; then they could potentially face the formidable Aztecs Premier team in the Quarter Final match. Sporting 91, 92, and 93 are very eager and excited for the start of the tournament.
